Sunglasses

Sunglasses are often considered to only be a fashion accessory but they also serve a vital function in the protection of our eyes.

The sun is a powerful source of visible light and ultraviolet (UV) light and although we often protect our skin against the harmful effects of the sun’s rays, we don’t always protect our eyes.

It has been found that prolonged exposure to UV light from the sun can give rise to Cataracts and Macular degeneration. These conditions can greatly affect the vision, especially later in life and as yet we can not reverse the damage caused in macular degeneration.

A good pair of sunglasses not only makes your eyes feel more comfortable in the harsh sunlight but they also shield your eyes from the harmful effects of UV light.

Photochromic lenses automatically adjust to the UV light. The Transitions lens changes from almost clear to a deep tint within minutes without you needing to think about changing your glasses.

Polarized sunglasses reduce glare and can give added comfort and clarity.

All of these sunglass options are available with prescription lenses if required.
