Caring For Your Vision

There are obvious situations where our eyes are at risk of damage, such as DIY and gardening but we rarely use eye protection carrying out these everyday tasks. Flying debris and even twigs can cause mild to severe damage and we should all be aware of these dangers.

Less obvious dangers are found on a bright sunny day. Prolonged exposure to the ultra-violet from the sun has been linked to the development of cataracts and macular degeneration. A good pair of UV absorbing sunglasses or UV coating on your everyday glasses will help prevent this unseen hazard to your eyes.

Smoking is also a major cause of macular degeneration, leading to very poor vision later in life.

We can even look after our eyes by watching what we eat. Brightly coloured fruit and veg and oily fish contain essential vitamins that are thought to protect our eyes and consequent vision.

Regular eye examinations are important for any concerns to be spotted and treated as soon as possible.
